What We Do

Since 1964, KHBC has existed to bring the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ, to the native youth of Alaska.

Who We Are

Kokrine Hills Bible Camp is a Christ centered ministry focused on reaching young people in interior Alaska. Life in a village is hard to understand for most people living in the lower 48 states. Much of what you eat you have fished or hunted, killed, skinned and stored during winter temperatures -40 degrees F are not uncommon. The sun shines very little during winter, so people live in deep long darkness. However the greatest challenges to Alaskan Natives is the darkness that does not give way during the summer months when the sun returns.

The true challenge of life in interior Alaska is the spiritual darkness. Reliance on alcohol and other drugs is normal. Neglect and violence is a pattern. Suicides often happen in waves when young people have lost hope and see only darkness with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Kokrine Hills Bible Camp has become a bright spot in a dark place. We prepare for dozens of village youth to find refuge each summer. It is a time when campers hear the Good News of God. While at camp, youth from ages 9-19 learn archery, play basketball, throw axes, learn gun safety, rock climb, swim, build relationship skills, and best of all are taught from the Bible. The essence of the teaching is the central message of the Bible, that the wages of sin is death, but God provided rescue from the condemnation and corruption of sin by being born again through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for payment of our sins. They are instructed clearly from the Bible as the authority on godly living in order to lead them to a relationship with their Creator. This relationship is the surest anchor and only hope for surviving the storms of life. No camper leaves the camp without a Bible with which they become personally acquainted.

So Kokrine Hills Bible Camp is exactly that: a Bible Camp! The ultimate goal of KHBC is to see God glorified as students come to salvation in Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of Him. Therefore we preach God’s Word to those attending camp for 2 Timothy 3:15-17 says, "and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
